The Story of EK Standard 4042


This is my life:-

I was purchased at Hilsdons Holdens , Church Street, Paramatta, NSW and put on the road to work in May 1962. My first owner was an Electricity supply distributor, in the outer western suburbs of Sydney. I was used as an executive car travelling about 20-30 miles every day. I was well cared for, as the policy for grease and oil changes was every 2 weeks, irrespective of the miles travelled.

The time was approaching when I was to be sold. Although I had only travelled 27000 miles in 3 years, company policy was to sell after three years. Because I was in good condition, I was very much sought after. The selling process was by tender. I was sold on the 3rd of August 1965 to my present owners for a value of 505.

 

I might add here that there were two tenders, but because my present owner was an employee of the company, he was awarded the sucessful tender. You might ask them one day how they arrived at the sum of 505.

The people who bought me are a lovely couple with two children. They took me everywhere, work, shopping and on holidays. I began to see a lot of the country as this picture will show.

My engine started to get a little tired, and because I was to take the family on a long holiday, my engine was reconditioned. This gave me a whole new lease on life, and off I went. As time went on, I began to see less and less of the outside world and more of my garage.

  

Eventually I saw a new era, as my owner joined a car club in Sydney. We had lots of outings, saw lots of new places with my brothers and sisters. I was often dressed up and used for weddings which made people very happy.

Then another change happened, my owners decided to move to Queensland, and I was driven up to another new home. Once again I was taken by my owners on outings with another car club and met my other relies. 

I had to have another engine rebuild and associated parts, although my interrior and exterior have remained the original Prospector Ivory (also known as Coolangatta Cream). I am now 38 years old, travelled 184000 miles and in my semi-retirement stage enjoy outings with my fellow cars.
